Movies called "film noir"— such as “The Maltese Falcon,” “Double Indemnity,” “The Big Sleep,” and “Touch of Evil” -- are among the gems of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Join Cheyney Ryan for a talk exploring the relationship of noir films to other movies of the time, and their political context in the post-World War II era. He will also share some stories about the actors in these films.
Dr. Cheyney Ryan is professor emeritus at the University of Oregon, where he taught for many years. He is now senior fellow in politics and director of human rights programs at Oxford University. His father was the movie actor Robert Ryan, known for his work in film noir.
