• Implementing and improving the land use code
• Processing land use and development applications
• Providing land use information to the public

Our Community Planners focus on long-range, multi-year projects that help guide economically, socially and environmentally sustainable growth and development patterns citywide. These projects explore:

• How and where the City will grow and develop
• How to balance compact growth with protection of neighborhood character
• How to create walkable neighborhoods with good transit access
• What additional natural areas need protection
• How to address neighborhood needs in a neighborhood-based planning context

3. What do Urban Designers do?

Our Urban Designers operate in the intersection of architecture, city planning, transportation and traffic engineering, real estate economics, landscape design, and ecology. They add value by helping projects connect to each other and back to the city in a more comprehensive way.

• Utilize design fundamentals and human psychology to create better spaces
• Encourage project participation with natural systems whenever possible
• Use place-based thinking to allow systems to support neighborhood identity
• Help locate opportunities for tactical urbanism and public art across the city
