[ARCHIVED] Envision Eugene Spring Lecture

As part of Envision Eugene, the City of Eugene will host Jeffrey Tumlin, a nationally recognized sustainable transportation expert, on Wednesday, April 24th. Tumlin, author of Sustainable Transportation Planning, and a Principal with Nelson/Nygaard, a San Francisco-based firm, is coming to Eugene as part of a speaking tour sponsored by the Oregon Chapter of the American Planning Association and the Oregon Transportation and Growth Management Program.

Tumlin has worked for nearly two decades leading planning projects focused on transit station areas, downtown revitalization, and university campuses. He has delivered lectures and led classes across the US and internationally. In his projects, he focuses on reducing traffic congestion, CO2 emissions, and air pollution, while boosting economic vitality. He has worked successfully on projects that have accommodated millions of square feet of growth without adding to motor vehicle congestion.

While visiting Eugene for the April 24th lecture, Tumlin will bring his experiences to play in addressing potential issues for the southern Willamette Valley. His lecture will present innovative ideas for sustainable growth and create a discussion about how to apply these ideas in our local community.

Tumlin’s professional projects have won awards from the General Services Administration, American Planning Association, American Society of Landscape Architects, Congress for the New Urbanism, and Urban Land Institute. He is the author of Sustainable Transportation Planning: Tools for Creating Healthy, Vibrant and Resilient Communities, published by Wiley in 2012.
