The City of Eugene Human Rights Commission, through its Advocacy Workgroup, will host a community event in celebration of International Human Rights Day (IHRD) from 2-5 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Downtown Eugene Public Library (100 W. 10th Ave.). The event will feature music, food, and a moderated community discussion panel.

International Human Rights Day celebrates the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948. The UDHR establishes fundamental human rights that are to be universally protected, marking the first time such rights were articulated. This year's IHRD theme is "Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All." The UDHR safeguards the inherent rights of every individual, irrespective of factors like race, color, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status.

This event is a moment to gather, reflect, and acknowledge the human rights and social justice efforts of our community. This space will be a safe and welcoming environment to all and public accommodation is available upon request.
