Part of our mission in Eugene Rec is to provide recreation opportunities to all Eugene residents to help sharpen minds and strengthen bodies. That’s why we work hard to craft programs, classes and camps that are enjoyable and invigorating. From abstract painting to tap dancing, coastal trips to clay handbuilding, we want our offerings to be important and memorable.
While we’ve spent so much time focusing on what we offer, our registration process has fallen behind. For years, we’ve used a first-come, first-served online approach that doesn’t meet the growing demand for summer camps and our other popular programs. With everyone logging on all at once at the beginning of registration, our system can get overwhelmed, and slots fill within minutes – sometimes before the first person in line at a community center has an opportunity to sign up.
So, we’re changing things up, because recreation shouldn’t cross with frustration.
We’re developing a new lottery system that is intended to create a more equitable and fair process. A process that will simplify registration day and provide adequate time for families and caregivers to consider, rank and select their options.
Within this guide, we’ve marked which programs are in this season’s lottery, how it works and detailed specific dates you’ll want to know. As we further develop the system in the lead up to next summer’s camps registration, more programs will be added and tweaks will be made to ensure registration becomes a stress-free event.
Because that’s the way it should be.
