[ARCHIVED] Comic Con guidelines

Thank you for your interest in participating in the Tween and Teen Comic-Con presented by Eugene Public Library and Petersen Barn Community Center!

To ensure that this event is safe, respectful and enjoyable for all, please be aware of these cosplay and behavior guidelines.

If your costume, behavior, or language violates these policies, you may be asked to change your costume, remove a prop, or leave the event.

  • All usual policies for City of Eugene facilities are in effect during this event.
  • No weapons, real or prop.
  • No harassment or discrimination. If you feel you are being harassed, or see someone else being harassed, please tell a staff member immediately. If you see something, please say something.
  • This event is intended for tweens and teens. Costumes, cosplay and “acting the part” are encouraged -- and also remember to be aware of the people around you, especially younger people.
  • You must be able to see fully and clearly all around you. Tiny eye slots are not acceptable. If your costume does not allow full vision -- for ex., if you are wearing a fur suit -- then you must have a handler with you at all times. The handler cannot be wearing a mask or costume head.
  • Appropriate footwear is required.
    • If your costume calls for bare feet, you may wear flip-flops or ballet slippers, but the soles of your feet may not come in contact with the floor. If your costume requires a morph suit or unitard-type outfit, you must pad the soles of the costume. YouTube offers tutorials on how to make "invisible shoes" for cosplay.
    • Inline skates (Rollerblades), roller skates, Togo skates, sneaker skates (Heelys), etc. are not allowed. Sneaker-type skates/Heelys may be worn.
  • Body makeup that easily smears or transfers to property or other people is not allowed. Properly seal and set all makeup to prevent this.
  • Your costume should not shed. Avoid loose materials such as sand, glitter, confetti, flower petals or other items that are designed to fall, scatter or otherwise separate from your costume.
  • Flammable materials such as candles, fireworks, sparklers, liquid fuels or other fire hazards are not allowed. Sharp and/or fragile materials (for ex., items made of glass) are not allowed.
  • If your costume has pieces such as wings, spikes, armor, etc. that extend well beyond your body, or if you are carrying a large prop, be careful of people and objects around you.
  •  Do not block doorways, walkways or exits with your costume, props or costume pieces. If your costume or prop is disruptive or dangerous, you may be asked to change your costume or remove your prop from the event.
  • Costumes must be suitable for all audiences. All “private parts” must be covered by actual clothing. Toplessness is not allowed. Genitalia and/or nipples may not be visible through your costume; liquid latex/body paint is not considered enough coverage. (You may use liquid latex/body paint as an enhancement). The illusion of nudity is not allowed.
  • Shock costumes, or costumes which have the primary purpose of offending and disrespecting other individuals, cultures or religions in any way, are not allowed. Racist symbols, emblems of genocide, and gang signs are not allowed.
  • No costumes may be realistic depictions of U.S. law enforcement, current U.S. military uniforms, first responders, emergency medical personnel or any official government agent. Some "vintage,” historical, non-current uniforms, or military or police-style costumes (for ex., Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, etc.) may be acceptable if they fit within the other guidelines. If you're not sure, please consult with staff in advance.

Thank you for helping to make this event a success for everyone!
