FIRE INFORMATION - UPDATED 7:45 A.M., JULY 4, 2023
The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) has taken command of this incident and updates will be provided on the ODF Facebook page and shared to the Eugene Springfield Fire Facebook page.
- The houses on Snowberry Road that were evacuated early in the evening of July 3 are able to return to their homes.
- Bulldozers and two 18-person crews worked through the night. Northeast winds guided the fire through prairie grass and crews were able to prevent the fire from burning timber.
- The southeastern side of the fire is still burning, the fire is 35% contained.
- Helicopters will assist with water drops today.
BACKGROUND
At 6:02 p.m., July 3, a fire was reported on Moon Mountain (Rockrose Lane and Woodfern Lane). Eugene Springfield Fire is on scene with multiple fire service agencies across Lane County. The fire is in steep terrain and is approximately 40 acres. Please avoid the area to allow emergency vehicles access. Eugene Police is also on scene for traffic direction and with the Drone Team.
Additional resources, including the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) and multiple agencies from all local area fire departments are also on scene. Command of the incident will be transferred to ODF Western Lane and fire crews will be on the scene throughout the night. Residents will see visible smoke and embers within the perimeter of the fire. Crews will evaluate the need for additional resources in the morning of July 4 in preparation for hot and dry weather conditions. More updates will be provided tomorrow morning after the fire has been evaluated.
