[ARCHIVED] City to negotiate purchase of former riverfront EWEB property

The City of Eugene and Eugene Water and Electric Board (EWEB) have agreed to enter negotiations for the City to purchase EWEB’s former riverfront headquarters property. The property would maintain this valuable public building space along the river for better access and service to the community, while providing space for an accessible City Hall.

The Eugene City Council has worked to determine a permanent home for City Hall for many years and funds are designated for this purpose. Housing City Hall at the 4.4-acre riverfront property will create a place for civic engagement and provides many opportunities for community use.

“The EWEB headquarters has the potential to be a responsible, smart location for multiple City services, including a permanent City Hall, that builds on previous investments, maintains a public asset and potentially saves taxpayers significant dollars in both the short and long term,” said City Manager Sarah Medary. “At the same time, this location increases public access to the historic riverfront property.”

The Council will meet in the coming weeks to discuss terms and details of the purchase. City Council meetings can be viewed live or later on the City’s website.
