Vehicle Crash and Fire on Ferry Street Bridge – DUII Arrest

EPD SUV

At 9:36 p.m. on November 16.  Eugene Police officers were called to respond to a single-vehicle crash at Coburg Road and East 6th Avenue. The involved vehicle, a Nissan Pathfinder, was on fire.

Upon arrival, police found the Pathfinder had crashed into an asphalt machine in the road construction site, on the ramp to the Ferry Street Bridge. The  machine and SUV were on fire. A construction worker who was deicing in the area had broken the SUV’s window to help extract the driver before the vehicle became engulfed in flames. Eugene Springfield Fire responded to address the fire.

Upon contacting the driver, later identified as Lindsey Denise Brown, age 37, of Eugene, officers suspected impairment and began an investigation. She was subsequently arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail on the Probable Cause charges of DUII, Reckless Driving, and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree.

Cost of the burned construction machine was estimated by the construction company workers to be about $75,000. Public works staff worked through the night to vacuum the excess water to prevent it from freezing overnight and create an additional hazard.
