[ARCHIVED] Man dies after truck unloading accident

At 8:25 p.m. on December 4, a call came in to Central Lane 911 regarding a vehicle accident in the 4500 block of Souza Street. Eugene Springfield Fire EMS responded for a rescue as a man was reported to have been pinned under a truck he was removing from a multi-vehicle trailer. Bystanders had been trying to free him, and when ESF arrived, they called in additional resources for specialized rescue equipment and were able to get the vehicle up off of the man and perform life-saving intervention, however the man was already deceased.  Lane County Medical Examiner will be conducting further investigation.

 

The deceased, Henrique Maia-Desouza, age 27, is from New Jersey and a citizen of Brazil, where most of his family resides. He came to Eugene with a friend to help him deliver a vehicle. The pair had left New Jersey last Monday to travel across the United States picking up and dropping off vehicles at different locations.

 

CAHOOTS was called to help his friend, who owns Moura Transport LLC. EPD Case 21-19092
