While working focused patrols for the parks around 3:15 p.m. on September 17, a Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit officer focused on the West Eugene area. He located an unoccupied stolen vehicle near Pacific and Danebo. Other officers arrived to the area. Meanwhile, Jazmyn Rene Jasper, age 20, of Springfield, and a male passenger, got into the vehicle and Jasper began driving. Officers performed a high-risk stop on the vehicle and detained Jasper without incident. Jasper was cited in lieu of custody for Possession Stolen Vehicle at around 2:55 p.m.
While the officer who had spotted and cited Jasper was driving to store evidence, a man SCU had just arrested on September 9 near 1st and Bertelsen for Unauthorized Use Vehicle, pulled in front of him. The suspect, Jayden Lamar Dominic Mackay, age 23, of Eugene was driving another stolen vehicle. MacKay made a couple of quick turns to evade the officer, but was quickly located by another SCU officer. MacKay was lodged at Lane County Jail for Unauthorized Use Vehicle and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
