[ARCHIVED] No Evidence for Rumors of Reported Kidnap Near UO

Police Patrol Vehicle

Yesterday, January 24,  at around 1:50 p.m., 911 began to get public calls, referring to a social media post that a female was forced into a vehicle and calling it a kidnapping. The callers were unable to provide information on who originated the post and may have been a witness to the female being forced into the vehicle. The vehicle was reported to be a black newer-model pick-up truck at 599 E. 13th Avenue/Patterson Street. People in the area heard a scream that sounded like a female. The caller reported the vehicle was parked at Nova Urgent Care, 598 E 13th Avenue, that a man approached the vehicle but did not get in, put his finger up to his mouth and did a shushing gesture. The female stopped screaming. The man is reported to have left on foot eastbound on E. 13th Avenue. There were no weapons observed. The caller said the vehicle then left the parking lot headed South on Patterson Street. Police responded to the area and were unable to locate either the truck or the man.

There was further investigation by Eugene Police Patrol and Investigations. Officers called Nova Urgent Care and spoke to a provider at the location. Nova Urgent Care had two security cameras showing the parking lot. Video footage shows a man on foot flagging down the vehicle as it arrives driving east on E. 13th Avenue. The vehicle turns south on Patterson Street and enters the parking lot, parking facing E .13th Avenue. The male on foot approaches the vehicle and the male driver gets out. The males embrace and begin talking outside the vehicle. The males speak for a few minutes before the driver opens the driver`s door and pulls out a young juvenile who appears to be between age 6 and 8. The driver holds the juvenile briefly before placing them into the back seat. The juvenile did not appear to be in distress. The males speak for a few more minutes before the driver gets back into the vehicle and the male on foot leaves West on E 13th Ave. The vehicle then leaves the parking lot, south on Patterson Street a few minutes later.

No one claims to have witnessed a female being forced into the vehicle has contacted police.
