[ARCHIVED] Street Crimes Unit and Drug Detection K9 Jack Busy

Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit has continued to focus on prolific offenders, who are identified through intelligence-based policing, public tips and other sources.

 

On January 12 at 9:18 p.m., a Street Crimes Unit officer spotted a vehicle whose driver committed a traffic violation and conducted  traffic stop near the 4600 block of Royal Avenue. Once he contacted the driver, Robbie Louis Rowland, age 50, of Eugene, he developed reasonable suspicion there may be illegal substances in the vehicle and he called for Officer Joe Kidd and narcotics detection K9 Jack to conduct a narcotics sniff of the vehicle. K9 Jack alerted to the presence of narcotics. Officers searched the car and located almost 8 ounces of methamphetamine under the hood of the car along with over $1,300 cash. Rowland was charged with Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine Commercial, two counts of Felon in Possession of Restricted Weapon. He was also given Uniformed Traffic Citations for Driving While Suspended  and Failure to Signal a Turn. Case 21-00663

 

On January 12 at 7:30 p.m., an SCU officer spotted Hannah Rose Zabriskie, age 38, of Corvallis, driving near Barger and N. Clarey and knew she had a Parole Violation warrant for Burglary out of the Oregon State Parole Board. The SCU officer conducted a traffic stop and took Zabriskie into custody without incident. During a search incident to arrest, she was found to be in possession of meth. Officer Joe Kidd and  K9 Jack were in the area and K9 Jack had a sniff around the vehicle. Officer Kidd advised K9 Jack alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. Officers located nine grams heroin and almost a half-pound of methamphetamine inside the car. Zabriskie was charged with Possession Methamphetamine Commercial Offense, Possession Heroin 1 Gram or More. On January 12 at 3:10 p.m., an EPD Patrol officer responded to Best Buy, 3300 Gateway, for the report of ID theft in progress. The officer coordinated with members of the Street Crimes Unit regarding attempting to locate the suspect and suspect vehicle. Within roughly 30 minutes, SCU officers spotted the vehicle and conducted a stop. Nicholas Scott Whiteley, age 35, of Springfield was contacted in the vehicle. He has been charged with ID Theft. Officers recovered several stolen items from the vehicle.  Case 21-00653

 

Eugene Police Street Crimes Unit

The SCU has been focusing on prolific offenders, who are identified through intelligence-based policing, public tips and other sources. They have been proactively responding across the city to quality of life issues as they arise, using all available resources and partners such as community groups, neighborhood associations and city services. SCU is dedicated to targeting immediate and acute community safety system issues while working toward mission-critical enhancements that need to be addressed through a longer-term and broader community safety initiative. The unit currently consists of a lieutenant, a sergeant and eight officers.
