[ARCHIVED] Eugene Springfield Fire Administers 700 Doses of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine for First Responders

I got my COVID-19 vaccine.

Last week, Eugene Springfield Fire (ESF) received its first 1,000 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for first responders. In accordance with Oregon Health Authority guidance, and in coordination with Lane County Public Health, crews immediately vaccinated on-duty staff. To date they’ve administered about 700 vaccines to local first responders, including other local agencies like the Eugene Police Department, Springfield Police Department, and Lane Fire Authority.

ESF crews are trained in the administration of vaccinations, follow protocol that is in place, and work under the guidance of the supervising physician. As the availability of doses improves, crews will continue to expand their vaccination system for better breadth and depth.

“Vaccinating our first responders is an important step for Lane County,” said acting Eugene Springfield Fire Chief Chris Heppel. “This vaccine is important for those who can be the first point of contact for COVID-19 patients. We’re grateful to receive and administer those vaccines on such a quick timeline.”

ESF will continue to administer the vaccine. They will also assist in the distribution of the second round of the vaccine for first responders, starting at the end of January.
