Artists and organizations encouraged to apply through Feb. 7

The City of Eugene Cultural Services Downtown Program Fund offers artists and organizations an opportunity to transform downtown outdoor spaces into arts and culture destinations. Funding of up to $5,000 per project will be awarded to produce quality programming in publicly accessible outdoor spaces in Eugene’s downtown core. Funding can support any artistic or cultural discipline, including visual, dance, music, theatre, film/video/media and multidisciplinary fields. Culturally diverse programming is encouraged.

The 2021 Downtown Program Fund seeks to:

  • Draw people and positive energy to the downtown core through activation of outdoor spaces with arts and culture events or installations;
  • Help artists and arts organizations to survive and thrive through the impacts of the pandemic;
  • Support long-term recovery efforts by engaging the community in support for arts & culture; and
  • Foster a sense of belonging and safety for all community members, in particular Eugene’s BIPOC and LGBTQ communities.

More information and the application are available at eugene-or.gov/downtownprogramfund. Applications will be accepted through Feb. 7.

This is the fourth year the Downtown Program Fund will support arts and culture in Eugene’s downtown core. The fund is one strategy in the City of Eugene’s focus on investment in downtown as the social, economic and cultural heart of our community. Programming has ranged from a larger-than-life PONG tournament to an illuminated art gallery to African dance and drumming. The fund has also supported art installations including a media kiosk that turns virtual reality inside out.

“We are happy to be able to support excellent programming by and for our community once again,” Community Engagement Manager Sarah-Kate Sharkey said. “This year it feels more important than ever. Our goal is not only to bring positive energy to Eugene’s downtown public spaces, but also to help local artists and arts organizations continue their important work and support our community’s recovery from the pandemic.”
