[ARCHIVED] Update: Sentencing in Sex Abuse Case

UPDATE in Sex Abuse Case Edward Samuel Thompson, age 40, of Eugene: 

Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit provided an update as as a jury trial held in this case from November 3 through November 10 has  been concluded.  The Jury voted (unanimously) to convict Mr. Thompson on four counts of Rape in the First Degree, Sodomy in the First Degree, and five counts of Sex Abuse in the First Degree.  Sentencing was held this yesterday afternoon. 


Mr. Thompson was sentenced to 1500 Months (125 Years) Prison. These are Measure 11 charges, so he is required to serve the entire sentence with the exception of Credit for Time Served. He has been in custody since August 21, 2018.  


Previously Released: On December 17, 2019, Edward Samuel Thompson, age 40, of Eugene, was arraigned after being indicted on five counts of Rape in the First Degree, five counts of Sodomy in the First Degree, and five counts of Sex Abuse in the first degree. The charges are related to a case involving a minor of less than 12 years in age that occurred between 2012 and August 21, 2018. He has remained in custody since his arrest by the FBI and Eugene Police for possession of child pornography on August 21, 2018.  At the time of his arrest, it was reported that Thompson was a long-term member and  a music ministry leader at Christ Fellowship Church in Eugene and former member of Eugene Faith Center. Police also received information that Thompson has traveled outside of Oregon during the timeframe that the charges occurred, to include locations in Montana, Idaho, California and Arizona. The Eugene Police Violent Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate this case, and are concerned about the potential of additional victims.
