On November 4 at 8:27 a.m., while police were assisting detectives with yesterday’s homicide investigation and searching for an unrelated stabbing suspect that occurred just before 8 a.m., Central Lane 911 received a call for help from a residence in the Santa Clara area regarding a possible armed hostage situation. CLCC 911 worked to find a location for the call and found a possible address.
The involved man, age 29, was reported to be suicidal and have access to multiple firearms. EPD SWAT, EPD Crisis Negotiation Team and EPD Drone Team responded, and Eugene Springfield Fire EMS also responded to stage in case they were needed. A CENS message was sent out for nearby areas to shelter in place, including Awbrey Park Elementary School.
Once SWAT and CNT were at the scene, the 32-year-old female victim came running from the residence with a young child. They were escorted to safety. EPD CNT was able to make a good connection to the man, who was willing to accept help from police. He came out of the home without incident and was taken into custody.
