[ARCHIVED] Woman Assaulted at Eugene Downtown Public Library

UPDATE ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2020

The officer was able to identify the suspect in this case after a keen-eyed community member spotted him and called in the tip. Today, the officer contacted the suspect, Jonathan Lee Panday, age 49, and arrested him without incident after an interview. He's currently lodged at Lane County Jail for Assault  in the Second Degree.

PREVIOUS INFORMATION

On September 17, 2020, at approximately 12:25 p.m., a man assaulted and injured a 75-year-old woman as she attempted to return a library book at the Downtown Eugene Public Library. The man was last seen on foot headed eastbound on West 10th Avenue immediately after the incident. Video evidence shows the suspect to be a white male, approximately 30 to 40 years old, 5’10” to 6’ tall, heavy build, wearing a grey colored hooded jacket, tan shorts, and a black ball cap. The male appeared to have a distinctive tattoo or marking on the side of his left calf.
