[ARCHIVED] Man arrested after shots fired and tires slashed in neighborhood

On September 20 at 12:36 a.m., Eugene Police Patrol officers responded to calls reporting shots fired near Broadway and Polk. Subsequently another call came in regarding shots fired into a residence. An officer located the residence, which had a bullet hole in a window. The round narrowly missed the home’s occupants. A few blocks away, a caller reported a man slashing tires near Grant and Broadway. The victim reported she confronted the suspect about slashing her tires and he pointed a gun at her.


An officer located the suspect and held him at gunpoint while awaiting backup units. The suspect, identified as Russell Alan Hill, age 37, of Eugene, was taken in to custody without further incident. He was found to have a gun in his waistband, a knife, and possession of cocaine.


Two officers performed an area check for damaged vehicles and found eight vehicles in the area of Broadway to Almaden to W. 10th Avenue to Taylor had had their tires slashed.


Hill was charged with two counts of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, nine counts of Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, two counts of Reckless Endangering, and Possession of Controlled Substance Cocaine.
