Kalapuya Storytelling and Traditional Hand Drumming
Downtown Library and online live: Saturday, February 26, 2:00 p.m.
Join Shannin Stutzman for a talk featuring stories, songs, and drumming. Drop in at the Downtown Library or watch online on YouTube Live.
Learn about the Kalapuya, a Native American community indigenous to the Willamette Valley. Stutzman will tell traditional Kalapuya stories and share traditional songs and drumming. Stutzman is a cultural director for a Native youth cultural camp and has spoken and performed in schools, universities, and libraries for over 20 years.

The 2019 Booker Prize winner is an inventive and vivid portrait of contemporary Britain and the legacy of Britain's colonial history in Africa and the Caribbean. The twelve central characters in this multi-voiced novel lead vastly different lives -- from a nonbinary social media influencer to a 93-year-old woman living on a farm -- and also intersect in shared aspects of their identities, from age to race to sexuality to class.

Exhibit: Paintings by Jonathan Short
Downtown Library 2nd floor, November through February
Jonathan Short's colorful paintings are inspired by nature. Short is originally from the East Coast, where he studied art since childhood. Influenced by many trips on the train to the Metropolitan Museum Of Art in New York City, he then studied at The Art Students League N.YC. and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He says, "The air of Oregon has inspired me to pursue painting. It's like a religious experience."
