Eugene Public Library is asking for a favor: please return books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines now if you are done using them, even if they are not due until September 14.
Outside Book Return Hours
The outside book returns are open at all three Eugene Public Library locations:
- Downtown Library: Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Bethel and Sheldon branch: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Library Director Will O’Hearn explains, "When we had to close the library buildings and outside book returns, we didn’t know just when we would be able to reopen them. We extended all due dates to September 14 to make sure that everyone would have plenty of time to return items without stress. But now, that date is coming up pretty soon."
The first outside book returns were reopened in June and many items have been returned. However, there is still an unusually large number of items out on loan right now.
The library is asking borrowers to "help us help you" by returning items soon, in order to prevent an overload on September 14. Items can be returned to any location, regardless of where they were borrowed.
Adds O’Hearn, "Another benefit of returning items sooner is that it makes them available for others to borrow and enjoy."
Eugene Public Library staff are available to assist the public Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., plus evening hours until 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Call 541-682-5450, email libraryaskus@ci.eugene.or.us, use live chat or find more information on the Library’s web pages.
