Parents, teachers, and all interested community members are invited to a free symposium on January 12 to learn about gangs in our area, sort myth from fact, address stereotypes, learn what prevention techniques work in other communities, and create a plan to solve the criminal gang problem in our community.
The City of Eugene, local school districts, police agencies, University of Oregon, Lane County Department of Youth Services, Lane Community College, social service agencies and concerned individuals are presenting this event to discuss the growing number of gangs and gang-related violence here. The symposium will include educational talks by a series of speakers followed by break-out sessions for all attendees in the afternoon. The outcome will be a framework for a community-based plan to address the gang issue. A second event, which will build upon progress from January 12, is planned for April 27, 2013.
The event is free. Child care, sign language, interpreters and bus passes will be provided upon request. Please provide five business days of notice. For information, visit the Gang Prevention website. Register by January 4 at: http://lanecountygangpreventionday1.eventbrite.com.
