City places sanitation stations throughout community
Sanitation stations will start to reappear on City streets as the City continues to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sanitation station locations will be placed in high-use areas and can be found through our online mapping system, which is expected to be available on Aug. 10, 2020.
“We know good hygiene remains one of the best ways to kill germs and help limit the spread of COVID-19,” said Kevin Holman, Emergency Manager. “We hope these stations will encourage people to wash their hands more often – one of the many things we all need to be doing to protect ourselves from the coronavirus.”
Sanitation stations consist of a portable restroom and hand washing station. The City will place 10 stations throughout the community this week and may increase the number of stations if there is a need over the coming weeks. Vendors will clean both the restrooms and hand washing stations. The City will also monitor the stations to ensure they’re in good working condition.
At the onset of the pandemic, the City distributed over 70 portable restrooms and about 60 hand washing stations throughout the community to support sanitation and hygiene needs during the Governor’s Stay Home, Save Lives executive order. While these were removed in late June after Lane County moved into Phase 2, the City is redistributing sanitation stations, consisting of both a portable restroom and hand washing station, to continue supporting hygiene needs during the ongoing pandemic.
