The City of Eugene is applying for several active transportation projects through a state transportation grant program. Other jurisdictions are also applying for projects (for more information on their applications visit the Lane ACT web site at www.laneact/org).
Four proposals -- three for capital projects and one for a program -- are listed on the City of Eugene web site at www.eugene-or.gov/index.aspx?NID=2320. You can review the project summaries and submit an e-mail or letter of endorsement to the individual listed under “Get Involved.”.This is a very competitive grant program and your participation will be an important part of how decision makers evaluate the proposals.
Capital Projects
- Jessen Path: 12-foot-wide concrete path on south side of Golden Gardens Park (Active Bethel Citizens) that will connect the beltline path to Ohio Street.
- NE Livable Streets: develop bicycle boulevard network in northeast Eugene (Northeast Neighbors, Cal Young Neighbors, Harlow Neighbors) and improve pedestrian crossings.
- Amazon Active Transportation Corridor: adds three pedestrian bridges across Amazon Creek, rebuilds Rexius Trail, builds separated two-way cycle track on West Amazon Drive, extends Amazon Path south to Tugman Park. (Southeast Neighbors)
Programs
- SmartTrips: individualized marketing strategy to increase walking, bicycling, and transit for daily transportation by providing information and support programming. (Active Bethel Citizens)

A hearing before the LaneACT will be held Wednesday, January 9t, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the McLane Room at ODOT, 644 A Street, Springfield.
