[ARCHIVED] Officer Locates Stolen High-end bike, Returns to Owner

On May 16, at 4:14 a.m. , an officer, who happens to be a former bike shop manager, stopped Cassidy Moon Hatridge, age 39, of Eugene, for a bike light violation at W. 7th Place and Seneca Road. Hatridge was riding a full-suspension mountain bike. Based on his previous experience with bicycles, the officer knew it was a high-end bicycle, and he also recalled reading a bulletin about one of the same brand that had recently been stolen in the Goodpasture Island Road area.

The officer also used his bicycle-days background during the investigation to ascertain the bike was the same one that had been stolen and developed probable cause to arrest Hatridge for Theft in the First Degree (Receiving). Hatridge was arrested without incident. The bicycle was returned to the victim, who was happy to have it back. Case 20-08089
