[ARCHIVED] Crisis Negotiation Talks Suicidal Man Off Tall Building

At 12:16 p.m.
today, May 4, Eugene Police received a call about a man who was on the top ofthe floor of the parking garage at 7th and Olive. The man, in his
late 20s, was yelling and screaming and throwing objects off the building. Hethreatened to jump off the building and got on the railing with his legs
dangling. He was reacting to people on the street. 

 

Eugene PoliceDepartment’s Downtown and Crisis Negotiation team both responded. Eugene
Springfield Fire EMS was called out to stage in the area and EPD Patrol unitsblocked traffic in the area. 

 

EPD CNT went to
the top of the building and began negotiating with the man, who appeared to bedespondent, having a mental break and to be on a substance. Within 45 minutes
to an hour, CNT was able to get the man to come down and he was taken to alocal hospital on a non-criminal hold.
