[ARCHIVED] Man with Knife Safely Taken into custody on Peppertree Drive

Eugene Police Patrol officers successfully took a man armed with a knife into custody. 


Police began receiving reports today at 3:23 p.m. about a man who was making suicidal statements and threatening to kill neighbors. One caller reported he tried to push his way into their home, armed with a knife. The caller hid in a garage with another adult and two children. The suspect also called in to 911 threatening to kill the caller, and reporting he wished for police come shoot him. 

 

There was a quick and large police presence in the area, due to the call details, as well as Eugene Springfield Fire EMS standby. By 3:46 p.m., officers were able to successfully deescalate the man in his driveway.

 

The suspect, Rex Alvis, age 60, is being charged with Menacing and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
