[ARCHIVED] K9 Plus Drone Team Aids in Burglary Suspect Capture

At 12:37 p.m. today, Eugene Police officers responded to a reported burglary in progress. An alert neighbor saw a man breaking into a home in the 1700 block of West 18th Avenue.


EPD units swarmed the area, but the suspect had fled the home on foot. They set a perimeter and deployed the EPD Drone team to enhance their search, while a K9 was called in to assist.


The acute senses of Police K9 “Cwyk” and his handler Officer Owen Griffith, police located the suspect in a yard about a block away from the burglary. The suspect complied with officers’ commands to exit a shed and was taken into custody.


The suspect, Clarence Ray Scharbrough, 43 of Eugene, had outstanding felony warrants, and will also be charged with Burglary in the First Degree.


During the incident, police units contacted a man in the area, Dustin William Lindsay, 46, of Eugene, and found he had unrelated federal warrants.
