Our EPD K9s have been busy. K9 Hunter and Officer Jacob Thomas performed Hunter’s first three captures. K9 Cjuk and Officer Mike Casey had two captures, and K9 Cwyk and Officer Owen Griffith and had two captures. Here’s the rundown, along with some team photos:

Case number 19-13597
August 24, 2019

145 East 25th Avenue

Suspect: Alexandra Mary Jackson, age 26, charged with Burglary in the First Degree, Menacing, Possession of Heroin, and Warrants

On August 24, officers responded to 145 E. 25th Avenue regarding a woman who was threatening others with garden shears. The woman, later identified as Alexandra Jackson, used the garden shears to break windows in the home. She fled the scene prior to police arrival. K9 Hunter and his handler, Officer Thomas, went into action, searching the area. The team located Jackson in a nearby yard. EPD patrol officers, K9 Hunter and Officer Thomas took Jackson into custody after a brief struggle. Jackson was charged with the listed charges and lodged at the Lane County Jail.

West 7th Avenue/Chambers Street
Driver/Suspect: Outstanding

Passenger: Located by K9 Hunter


On August 25, an EPD officer observed a black Cadillac Escalade commit a traffic violation. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver accelerated away from the scene, eventually crashing nearby. The driver and a passenger ran from the vehicle. K9 Hunter and his handler, Officer Thomas, searched the area. They located the female passenger hiding behind a dumpster. Officers were able to develop probable cause to arrest the driver for a number of crimes. That driver is still outstanding.

2350 N. Terry St.
Suspect: Jared Michael Teem, age 51
Charges: Assault 4 (Abuse Prevention Act)

On August 24, officers responded to the area of North Terry Street and Trevon Street regarding a domestic dispute. They arrived and found a woman with injuries. They determined that the suspect, Jared Michael Teem, age 51, assaulted the woman and then fled the scene on foot. K9 Hunter and Officer Thomas searched the area. They found Teem hiding in a nearby tent. Officers took Teem into custody and lodged him for the listed charge.

August 24, 2019
2333 North Terry Street
Suspect: Michael Lee Franzoni, age 40
Charges: Resisting Arrest, Hit and Run (Property Damage), Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Driving While Suspended, Warrants

On August 24, officers responded to 2333 North Terry Street regarding a man, later identified as Frazoni, who had crashed his vehicle and fled from the scene. Officers arrived and located Franzoni, walking away from the crash. Franzoni ignored police commands and ran. Officers caught up to Franzoni, who immediately resisted arrest. An officer attempted to pepper spray Franzoni, but it had no effect. Franzoni fled on foot. K9 Cjuk and his handler, Officer Michael Casey, arrived on-scene. K9 Cjuk helped take the fleeing suspect to the ground. Officers detained Franzoni and lodged him at the Lane County Jail for the listed charges.

Cjuk also helped apprehend John Frederick Swank in case number 19-13475, as mentioned in a prior Street Crimes press release.

Springfield PD case number 19-06891 – EPD Assist
September 1, 2019
1200 Block of Centennial Boulevard
Suspect: Xavier Orlando Hayes Pendergrass, age 21
Charges: Reckless Driving, Criminal Trespass 2, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Escape 3

On September 1, Springfield Police attempted to stop a red Honda sedan for a number of traffic violations. Rather than stopping for officers, the driver of the vehicle drove away, disregarding a stop sign and driving recklessly. Springfield Police officers found the vehicle and the driver nearby. He refused to stop and fled on foot, jumping over a fence in a nearby neighborhood.

K9 Cwyk and his handler, Officer Owen Griffith, responded to the scene. They spotted Pendergrass in a nearby yard, but Pendergrass again fled. Eventually, Cwyk helped locate Pendergrass hiding in a backyard shed. Officers arrested Pendergrass and lodged him on the listed charges.

September 15, 2019
1862 Coventry Way
Suspect: Derick Matthew Thomason, age 24
Charges: Attempted Burglary I, Interfering with a Peace Officer, Criminal Trespass 2

On September 15, Eugene Police officers responded to the 1800 block of Coventry Way regarding a shirtless man attempting to break into a home. That man, later identified as Tomason, tried gain entry into the home through a back door. He fled the scene prior to police arrival.

K9 Cwyk and his handler, Officer Griffith, searched the area. Cwyk and Officer Griffith tracked Tomason through a nearby church parking lot, across a ball field at a local school, and into a neighborhood a number of blocks away. More callers reported Tomason trespassing on their property. Eventually, Cwyk located Tomason in the 2100 block of Brittany Street, hiding in shrubbery. Officers arrested Tomason and lodged him on the listed charges.
