Stolen Vehicle with Child Inside

Case No.  19-12981

On Wednesday August 14, 2019 around 4:28pm Eugene Police Patrol and Street Crimes units responded to 500 Block of Langers Ln for a reported stolen vehicle.  The owner of the vehicle reported her vehicle was stolen with her 1-year old child in a child safety seat in the back of the car.   The vehicle drove off in an unknown direction. Multiple officers saturated the area looking for the involved vehicle and child.  The involved vehicle was described as a 2015 Silver Hyundai Sonata. While investigating this initial incident 911 received an additional call for a vehicle crash on Spencer Creek near Fawn Hill. Area witnesses described the vehicle and provided a vehicle plate. This information matched the stolen vehicle.  A witness checked on the occupants and located the 1-year old child in the backseat, still in his car seat and appeared to be uninjured. The suspect was nowhere to be found and fled in an unknown direction. Multiple EPD officers, Lane County Sheriff’s Department, Fire and EMS responded to the crash scene. The child appeared to have no injuries; however, as a precaution was transported to Riverbend Hospital and was later released. One witness reported observing the crash, picked-up, and transported the suspect to the area N Danebo and Royal Ave. This information was confirmed and appeared to have occurred sometime around 4:58pm. The female suspect was last observed walking east on Royal Ave. An area search by officers was not successful in locating the suspect. The female suspect can be described as a white female, in her late teens or early 20’s, thin build, brown hair possibly in a pony tail, and was last seen wearing a red color short sleeve or tank top shirt, black capri yoga type pants, and black shoes. The suspect was also described to be bleeding from the head and or face area with possible cuts or scratches on her face.

Eugene Police Violent Crimes Detectives responded to the scene and are actively investigating this incident. The involved child is home safe with family. The suspect is still outstanding and EPD is seeking help from the public to identify and locate the suspect and/or additional witnesses. If you have any information pertaining to this incident, we ask that you contact Eugene Police Detective Cliff Sites and leave a message with your full name, address, and phone number to be interviewed.
