Beginning July 22, a portion of the South Bank Path will close for up to two years to allow for construction of the Downtown Riverfront site.
The initial closure will be near the Eugene Water and Electric Board (EWEB) building on 4th Avenue and continue to south to the Steam Plant. Crews will remove and replace the path as part of the Downtown Riverfront project, including a new park and other infrastructure improvements. This closure is expected to last until spring 2021.
Construction crews will also close access to the path from 8th Avenue and Hilyard during parts of 2019 and 2020. Crews will be preparing for and building the southern access into the Riverfront site near the path.
Closing the path will give crews space to safely work, as large construction equipment will be moving through the area.
The Peter DeFazio (near the EWEB fountain) and Dave and Lynn Frohnmayer (formerly the Autzen Bridge) bridges will remain open throughout the construction.
People are encouraged to use the Frohnmayer and DeFazio bridges to detour north through Alton Baker Park. A detour through downtown will also be in place.
Once the work is complete, people will be able to enjoy a new path through the redeveloped Downtown Riverfront Park.
