[ARCHIVED] North American Motor Officers Association 37th Annual Training Conference May 15-17

Eugene Police, with assistance from Springfield and Coos Bay Police Departments, is hosting the national event. You can expect to see approximately 125 riders going through training courses at the Valley River Center south parking lot on May 15-17, and then competing on May 17. This year’s event is sponsored in part by the Eugene Police Foundation.

On Thursday, May 16, there will be a Memorial Ride to 52nd and Hwy 126 for fallen Eugene Police Traffic Enforcement Unit Officer Chris Kilcullen. From 11:00 a.m. through 11:15 a.m., all or most of the motor officers at the conference will ride to that location and stop for a moment or two at the Officer Chris Kilcullen Memorial Site to pay their respects. This is another opportunity to see many of the officers attending the conference. May 12-19 is also Police Week.

National Police Week is a time when our country memorializes law enforcement personnel who died in the line of duty. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. There is a National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington DC to raise awareness about those officers who have died in the line of duty.
