[ARCHIVED] February 26: Inclement Weather Updates

Despite significant progress clearing roads overnight, people should still prepare to navigate slick and icy roads. That means if you have to go out, give yourself extra drive time to get where you need to go and slow down.

Temperatures overnight hovered around freezing, allowing public works crews to plow snow and slush on most priority routes. They were able to get to all priority one and two routes, and many priority three routes. They also removed several tree hazards, however crews will be back out to clear streets of tree hazards as there are still at least 70 sites that need to be inspected.

While many of the main roads are wet, not icy, crews are ready to sand as needed.

Public works staff will also start to focus on clearing sidewalks and access ramps. People can help by clearing a path on the sidewalks in front of their property, as required under City code.

They will return to chip and haul away trees in the coming days. Homeowners working on their own tree issues are asked to help keep roads clear by not placing debris and vegetation from their property in the City right of way.

The City’s ice/snow emergency declaration remains in effect. The emergency declaration means all vehicles must be removed from designated snow emergency routes. The City’s ice/snow ordinance prohibits parking along streets designated as snow emergency routes while a snow/ice emergency is in effect.  Typically, emergency routes are collectors, arterials, and bus routes.

Listen to local radio and television stations for regular updates.  If you have questions about which streets are emergency routes and subject to the parking ban, call 682-4800, or on the internet at www.eugene-or.gov/snow.
