At approximately 5:02 a.m. on January 21, Eugene Police and Eugene Springfield Fire EMS personnel were dispatched to 1700 Lake Shore Road for a report of a crew cab 2006 Toyota Prerunner pickup that crashed into a brick wall.
Both occupants, driver Christopher Chase Welch, age 16, and passenger Casius Lee Datri, age 16, were transported to a local hospital and the Major Collision Investigation Team responded to investigate.
Welch subsequently passed away from his injuries on January 23. Datri, is recovering at home.
Intoxication is being investigated as a factor in the crash.
