Officers made a quick robbery arrest early this morning; within 10 minutes of being dispatched to a robbery by a chain-wielding suspect who had fled in his SUV.
At 1:37 this morning, September 27, officers were sent to Jackson Gas Station/Market, 6085 W. 11th Avenue, for a robbery in progress. When they arrived, they learned a man had grabbed cigarettes from a display case, and then turned and slapped the counter with a metal chain, demanding money. He departed with cash, and was last seen driving southbound on Crow Road in an SUV.
An officer driving near W. 11th and Crow Road spotted a vehicle matching the description of the robbery suspect’s SUV and performed a traffic stop, assisted by another officer. The driver, later identified as Michael Gary Reed, age 33, of Eugene, didn’t comply with the officer’s commands and was taken out of the vehicle. Once out, he struggled with officers and it took multiple officers to detain him in handcuffs. He was determined to be the robbery suspect and arrested for Robbery in the First Degree and Interfering with a Police Officer.
