UPDATE on 9/5/18 at 2 p.m.: The City of Eugene has granted both Lyft and UBER Public Passenger Vehicle Licenses to operate in Eugene-Springfield. UBER has indicated that they will begin operations in our area on Thursday, September 6. All people interested in driving for a Transportation Network Company (TNC) in Eugene-Springfield must obtain a Driver Certification from the City of Eugene. Interested drivers will need to successfully apply and register with Lyft and/or UBER prior to applying for their City of Eugene Driver Certification.

How to Obtain a Driver Certification from the City

Driver Certification applications and instructions are posted online. The cost of the annual certification is $65, paid at the time of application. The City of Eugene began processing certifications on Tuesday, September 4. Below are the special hours for this week. Inquire on the website for hours of driver certification processing after September 7.

To obtain a Driver Certification from the City of Eugene one must be at least 21 years old. An interested person will need to apply and register online with the licensed Transportation Network Company (TNC) of their choice. Once the interested driver is approved by the TNC they will fill out the Public Passenger Vehicle Driver Certification application and come into the Atrium Building (or special location list below). The interested driver will need to bring with them:

  • A Valid State-Issued Driver's License
  • Completed Application (paper copies will be available on-site)
  • Form of Payment (cash, money order, or Visa or MC - $65)
  • Completed Vehicle Inspection Form (can be obtained from the TNC)
