[ARCHIVED] 4/20 don't toke and drive

The number 420 is a code related to cannabis and refers to the consumption of the drug, especially around 4:20 p.m. April 20 (4/20) has become a date related to celebration of cannabis.

Most people are familiar with the impact of drinking and driving. Similar to alcohol, you can’t use marijuana in a vehicle and driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal. The potency of some of today’s marijuana is high compared to in past decades. And, be aware that eating marijuana can produce a stronger reaction than smoking it.

Whether someone smokes or ingests marijuana, or mixes it with other substances such as alcohol or other drugs, it can impair their ability to safely drive and operate machinery. So, in addition to not drinking and driving, please don’t toke and drive.

Eugene Police will be out on patrol with drug recognition experts on 4/20 (April 20), to help ensure our roadways are safe.
