At 10:31 a.m., April 11, a man was reported shooting a gun or pellet gun at 99 E. 8th Avenue and Oak Street. The call came out as a male with a pistol, and subsequently there was information that it may be a realistic-looking replica pellet gun. The suspect was described as wearing a vest, dark clothes and carrying a backpack. He was reported to have fired several times after appearing agitated. People in the area who had exiting buildings nearby, quickly ran back into their buildings when they heard the shots.
Without knowing for certain what type of weapon the man might have, officers quickly responded and took due precautions for the public’s safety and their own.. The man was reported to be rapping and agitated, and he also had been reported doing pushups.
When officers made their approach, he was compliant and put himself in a prone position, however, he started moving around. Officers approached and took him into custody without incident. A realistic looking pellet gun was located on Williams.
Immanuel Menelik Williams, age 33, was charged with Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Disorderly Conduct, and he was issued a Park Restriction.
