[ARCHIVED] Theft By Extortion

On February 14, police received information of extortion involving a female victim who had received a threatening note on her car. The car was parked in a secure location at the The Hub apartment complex on East Broadway when the victim observed a note underneath the windshield wiper. The note disclosed direction to deliver a large sum of money at a specific time to the mailboxes at 1255 Mill Street and included threats regarding what would happen if the directions were not followed. Additionally, a sketch was enclosed of the specific location where the envelope containing the money should be dropped.

Following information of the extortion attempt, police responded to the location at the time directed on the letter using the victim’s car and dropped the envelope off at the location. A short time later, the suspect, Dylan Ray Browning, age 21, of Eugene, was observed taking the envelope from the location and was contacted by police. He was arrested and transported to the Lane County Jail for Theft By Extortion.
