[ARCHIVED] Drug-Impaired Driver Rear-ends Detective on his way to Taxi Driver job

Amidst heavy morning traffic on I-105 Westbound, a vehicle driven by James Blair Garner, 26, of Eugene, rear-ended an undercover detective vehicle with a Eugene Police detective driving. Arriving patrol units suspected impairment of Garner, and subsequent investigation indicated he was impaired by controlled substances that included Marijuana. Garner was traveling to his place of employment at a local Taxi company when he struck the detective car.


The detective was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and released after being treated in the emergency room.


Garner was transported to the Lane County Jail where he is being held for Assault in the Third Degree, and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. He was also cited for Following Too Closely.
