On January 23, just after midnight, EPD patrol officers spotted a chronic offender in the 100 block of Silver Lane. While they were in are nearby parking lot watching his activity, a small 1998 Audi sedan arrived with two occupants and parked in the same lot. A few minutes later the driver, later identified as Tracey Bramlett Coats, age 41, got out of the Audi and entered a nearby Ford truck in the same parking lot. A few minutes later, the Audi’s passenger, identified as Jesse Daniel Coats, age 28, exited the Audi and got into the passenger’s seat of the Ford Truck. Shortly after that they left in the truck and an EPD officer followed, attempting to conduct a traffic stop on the truck near Barger and Beltline.
The truck failed to stop and instead fled into a neighborhood off Laurelhurst. Eventually the truck was left on north Melrose Loop near Jessen Road. Both the driver and passenger fled from the truck in an unknown direction. The patrol officers investigated the possible occupants and later found them in the 2200 block of Golden Gardens.
Eugene Police Property Crimes Unit detectives and Springfield Police K9 arrived and assisted with hailing the suspects from the residence. During the course of this dynamic event it was discovered that the Ford truck had been stolen by the pair. Both were arrested and lodged at Lane County Jail for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Eluding by Vehicle and by Foot.
The Ford was recovered and returned to its owner.
