[ARCHIVED] DUII Saturation Patrols to Start for Holidays

Did you know that on average, according to the National Highway Transportation Agency, nearly 29 people in the United States die in alcohol-impaired vehicle crashes every day. Impaired driving continues to be a problem in our community and was a factor in 708 arrests in 2016. Eugene Police will be continuing DUII saturation patrols this weekend, and these patrols will extend through the holiday season.

To address the issue of DUII driving and to ensure enough officers are available to identify, stop and process impaired drivers, DUII patrols will be staffed above and beyond the normal strength through January 1, primarily with the help of funding from state grants.

As most people are aware, the holiday season brings a heavy increase in traffic to the area. Remember to leave plenty of time for yourselves to get to your destination and please be courteous to other drivers and pedestrians, and always remember to be responsible and have a plan to get home safely if you anticipate celebrating in any festivities.
