[ARCHIVED] City Launches New Local Mural Program

City of Eugene Cultural Services is creating opportunities for business owners and artists to work together in the interest of bringing more color and vibrancy to Eugene. Urban Canvas, Local Artists, Local Walls, is an initiative that connects artists and business owners. The program is currently looking for both artists and businesses who want to participate.

“Not only will Urban Canvas add colorful public art to our community’s walls, it will showcase local artists’ talents and help advance their professional careers while offering local businesses a unique opportunity to be involved with the arts,” Cultural Services Director Isaac Marquez said.

Urban Canvas is seeking artists and wall owners who would like to participate. All artists who have a portfolio of work are being accepted on an ongoing basis, from the experienced muralist to the visual artist wanting to branch out into mural work. Interested wall owners will review samples of an artist’s existing work and select from the Urban Canvas roster. The program will serve as the liaison between the artist and the building owner. More information and applications for artists and wall owners are available at eugene-or.gov/urbancanvas.

The program advances Cultural Services’ mission to provide responsible and catalytic leadership to support the public’s vision for a thriving arts and cultural sector that contributes to the community’s social and economic well-being.
