This fall and winter, some parts of the Downtown Library are being remodeled to best meet current community needs and priorities:
Accomplishing these aims requires some physical rearranging, which means some items will be moved to new places. At times during the work process, some areas and items will be temporarily unavailable, and some items will be on shelves that have not yet been relabeled.
We will do our best to make it as easy as possible for you to use the Library as fully as possible during this time. Thank you for your understanding and flexibility - and please ask us for assistance anytime!

- When is this happening?
Some initial work is already completed or underway. Most of the construction and moving will take place in January. Work on the 2nd and 3rd floors is expected to be completed in February. Work on the expanded teen center on the 1st floor is expected to be completed by summer.
- What is moving where?
All existing collections and services will continue. We’re just moving some items and services to different locations in the Downtown building, including:
As items move, signs will be posted to help you find them in their new places.
- Why are these particular changes being made?
The remodel decisions are based on input from Eugeneans, including: the priorities voters expressed in approving the 5 year levy; studies of people’s current use of the space; and professional judgment including an understanding of this community and public library services nationwide.
- Didn't I hear that eventually the Library will expand onto the 4th floor?
That remains the plan for some point in the future. For right now, there are other City services located on the 4th floor that will move when a new City Hall is ready.
