[ARCHIVED] Summer Kicks Off in the Park Blocks

Summer has finally arrived, and EUGfun! is filling the Park Blocks at 8th and Oak Street with family-friendly fun. And it’s all free! From morning Tai Chi to lunchtime music to Friday evening concerts, there’s something for everyone.


The mornings begin with Tai Chi from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Then every Tuesday through Friday from noon to 1:30 p.m., people can relax with food cart fare and enjoy live performances from a variety of talented artists. Each Wednesday the Now! Performing Arts Series features folk, country, pop, African American Gospel, jazz, hip-hop, high-energy African and Hawaiian guitar. Then on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, the HiFi Street Performance Series entertains with music and more.


On select Tuesdays, fresh produce pairs with family fun at the Lane County Farmers Market Family Days from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 20, June 27, July 4, July 18, Aug. 1, Aug. 15 and Aug. 29. Activities include ladybug release, a donkey petting zoo, games, giant tinker toys, food vendors and live music.


The week finishes off with Fridays at the Park Blocks featuring food carts, a beer garden and a variety of arts and entertainment from 4:30 to 8 p.m. every week except the first Friday of each month. On June 16, July 21 and August 18, ArtCity presents Studio Without Walls - an active, eclectic, hothouse of multidisciplinary art happenings that engage the public. On June 23, the musical trio VCR brings a high-energy live show. Information to come on other upcoming Friday concerts presented by HiFi Music Hall and EUGfun!.


Finally, every Thursday in August starting at 9 p.m., movies will be featured in the Park Blocks including "Pele´: Birth of a Legend", "Mary Poppins", "Remember the Titans" and "Tangled."
