Eugene’s curbside food waste collection adds the fourth and final pilot area in a section of the South University neighborhood this week. The area will bring about 215 households into the pilot program that allows participants to have their food waste collected for composting rather than sending it to the landfill. The pilot area is north of 24th Avenue, east of Alder Street, south of 18th Avenue, and west of University Street.
The South University pilot follows the Friendly area, which began in September 2016, the Harlow area, which began in November 2016, and the Bethel area which began in February of this year. During the course of the two-year pilot program, participants in each area will have an opportunity to give input and feedback through surveys conducted by the City of Eugene. This valuable input and data collected during the pilot will help the City of Eugene create a city-wide food waste collection program in the future that works for everyone.
