[ARCHIVED] Stabbing suspect caught after help by alert neighbors

Just before 8:00 this morning, Eugene Police received a call from a residence in the 4100 block of Dove Avenue, with the caller reporting his friend was stabbed by a man, who was known to the victim. Police and Eugene Springfield Fire EMS responded immediately to the home and cared for the victim (name withheld at this time). Officers combed the area in a search for the suspect.

It was after EPD received calls from neighbors in the area of Hughes Street and Wood Avenue about a suspicious subject matching the suspect description that officers found the man and detained him. The suspect was in possession of a large knife.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery and is in stable condition.

During the initial search, an EPD canine and handler responded to the call. Although the only suspect involved was in custody by the time the dog arrived, they were able to locate property and clothing carried from the scene by the suspect.

Names of the victim and suspect will be released at a later time, since the investigation is ongoing.
