In a joint statement today, Eugene and Springfield City Managers, Jon Ruiz and Gino Grimaldi, announced that Chief Joe Zaludek has been selected to become the new Eugene Springfield Fire Chief. Chief Zaludek was appointed the Acting Fire Chief last April when Chief Groves retired as the Fire Chief for the Eugene Springfield Fire Department
“Over the past eight months, Chief Zaludek has used that experience and knowledge to ensure that the Fire Department continued to provide the same excellent service that we enjoyed during Chief Groves’ tenure. We have asked Chief Zaludek to continue to serve in the role in which he has demonstrated excellence over the past eight months – as the Fire Chief for the Eugene Springfield Fire Department.”
Zaludek has more than 32 years of progressively responsible experience in fire service.As a member of Eugene Springfield Fire he has served as a Firefighter,Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Training Captain, Battalion Chief, Training Chief, and Deputy Chief, and is a certified paramedic in the State of Oregon.In addition to his service with the Fire Department, Chief Zaludek’s volunteer service includes seven years on the 28J school board. Chief Zaludek received a Bachelor of Arts from Northwest Christian University, attended Lane Community College, and is currently active in the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
