Public Works crews worked overnight clearing trees and assessing all road closures in order to prioritize work for today. Most roads are now dry and only a few needed deicing overnight.
Crews will attempt to open all closed roadways today and remove debris from roads that are passable but have tree debris in the roadway such as Coburg Road. There may be some exceptions for those tree removals that need to be addressed after EWEB has completed their work.
Public Works would like to remind citizens not to add debris from their private trees to public tree debris or a resident; s leaf debris in the street. Public Works is charged with addressing publicly owned tree failures and when private tree debris becomes comingled it slows tree clearing down throughout the city.
The ice-snow emergency declaration remains in effect due to the continued unsafe situation with trees. During ice-snow emergencies, on street parking on priority transportation routes is banned. The ban allows emergency vehicles to travel safely on roadways to respond to emergency situations. Public works crews need access to this space to better manage the debris and clear the road. Getting parked cars off the street is a vital part of this emergency declaration.
The weather forecast looks to remain very cold and it is expected that there may be more tree failures so the public is advised to continue to use extreme caution around trees.
For tree failures and road issues, please call public works at 541-682-4800. Please only call 9-1-1 for immediate life and safety emergencies. To report a power outage, call EWEB at 844-484-2300.
