The Eugene 4J, Bethel, and Springfield school district’s Safe Routes to School program continues Bike Safety Education classes in partnership with the Eugene River House Outdoor Center. Thanks to the Jane Higdon and Oregon Community Foundation for a grant to continue the classes through the 2016-2017 school year and has sponsored the program since 2012. These classes would not be possible without the Foundation and great volunteer support.
The two week class during P.E. includes classroom, on and off campus practice, and culminates with 2 days of riding around the school’s community. We hope to show students transportation by bike is not only good for you and the environment, but is also fun and accessible.
Volunteers are needed for the community ride to help maintain a safe environment at traffic signals and intersections. No experience is necessary and the instructors will direct you with what is needed. It’s a fun and helpful way to share your love of cycling.
